Boy Scouts of America Mission Statement:

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Troop 639 Mission Statement:

To provide a safe, supportive and participatory environment that enables the scout’s learning of new skills, personal growth, character development, and leadership development, all within a structured outdoor program. Our scout-run troop is organized within the guidelines outlined in the “BSA Mission Statement” above.  To provide such a program requires the full commitment and participation of the entire adult and scout membership of our troop.

Deadline to recharter is Nov 30!

Posted by nsouza on Nov 24 2020 - 7:04pm

It's time to recharter. If you plan on returning next year, we need you to renew your troop membership by going to the Troop Store and paying your membership fees and dues via PayPal. As a reminder, each scouting family is required to have at least one registered adult. If you are the registered adult and need to renew your Youth Protection Training, please take care of this ASAP, as we won't be able to submit the recharter with expired YPTs.

Merit Badge Counselors needed

Posted by nsouza on Nov 24 2020 - 7:02pm

Parents, we could use some additional merit badge counselors for the scouts in our troop. You don't need any special expertise, just an interest and basic knowledge of the merit badge. You'll also need to fill out some paperwork and take some online training, but that only helps you know what you're doing! Attached is a list of merit badges that have no counselor in our troop. If any of these appeal to you, and you'd like to help us out, please contact Nancy Souza at nancysuesouza@gmail.com.

Youth Protection Training (YPT) RENEWALS are coming up for re-charter!

Posted by rjohnston on Oct 8 2020 - 3:54pm

1) Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered volunteers, regardless of their position.

2) New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training before submitting an application for registration. Also all Merit Badge counselors must be YPT certified.

3) Youth Protection Training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be re-registered.

Sign up for your cleaning shift at the Elk's Lodge

Posted by nsouza on Sep 21 2020 - 2:43pm

Scouts, as a service to the Mission Viejo Elk's Lodge for allowing us to use their patio for our meetings, we need 2-4 scouts each Friday at 4:00-5:00 p.m. to clean up the patio area before their Friday night dinner meeting. Cleaning entails using an electric leaf blower to blow leaves and debris off the patio, wiping down the tables and chairs, and setting up placecards at the tables. All scouts are expected to take a turn at least once a quarter, ff not more. Please click on the Sign-up Genius link below to sign up for your shift.
