State volunteer training and Live Scan

Posted by nsouza on Mar 25 2022 - 11:53pm

New California Law:
All Youth Organization Volunteers Must Complete State Background Check and Training

AB 506 Update: As a Scouting volunteer, you understand the importance of keeping children safe. A recent bill (AB 506) was passed by the State of California requiring volunteers and staff of Youth Service Organizations to complete training in reporting child abuse and neglect, and undergo Live Scan background checks. AB 506 is effective immediately. All staff and volunteers 18 years of age or older and who have direct contact with, or supervision of, children for more than 16 hours a month or 32 hours per year must complete a Live Scan background check (the digital version of inked fingerprinting) and online mandated reporter training. The website link below supports all of California's Scouting volunteers to ensure we all comply with California's new law.

Merit Badge Counselors needed

Posted by nsouza on Nov 24 2020 - 7:02pm

Parents, we could use some additional merit badge counselors for the scouts in our troop. You don't need any special expertise, just an interest and basic knowledge of the merit badge. You'll also need to fill out some paperwork and take some online training, but that only helps you know what you're doing! Attached is a list of merit badges that have no counselor in our troop. If any of these appeal to you, and you'd like to help us out, please contact Nancy Souza at nancysuesouza@gmail.com.
